Science Homework : 5th Grade Students at the New Frontiers Space Academy will have an exit exam on Monday, October 13, 2008. They were given a detailed study guide in class and were asked to take home their science journals and space academy folders. The study guide was also reviewed in class. A question/answer period followed to address any concerns the students had about the information. The study guide consists of Vocabulary words: know the definitions comet, asteroid, meteor, astronomer, galaxy, constellation, solar energy, source, wind, Galaxies: be able to identify and name the four different types Famous astronomers: know their nationality and what they are famous for: Tyco Brahe, Claudius Ptolemy, Galileo Galilei, Edmund Halley Understand the differences among orbit, revolution and rotation. Be able to recognize an example. Things you should know about the planets: order in the solar system, number of moons, interesting facts from Planet Pocket Guide, length of Earth year and Earth day Things you should know about the sun: order and names of layers, what happens in each layer, solar flares, sunspots, solar prominences Week of October 13 -17 Students will be having benchmarks this week. They will be a science test on Monday. They will be staying in their homerooms for benchmark testing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. There will be no homework assigned this week.
