The eighth grade students have had a very exciting time since the last newsletter.
First, all congratulations to students and Mrs. Weaver for an outstanding 88% pass rate and numerous commendable performances on the TAKS reading exam. The students recently took the Mathematics exam and we are looking forward to similar success.
We attended a live theater production at the Convention Center followed by a guided tour of the Alamo. It was a great Field Trip and some of our students experienced their first live stage production. The eighth graders also sponsored the Spring Fling dance which was enjoyed by many 5th-8th graders. The end of the year is fast approaching and information about the eighth grade field trip and end of year celebration will be coming home to you soon.

Welcome! In science we are using our minds and our hands to learn about the fascinating world around us. The subjects we will be studying are physics, chemistry, earth and life sciences. We will do activities and laboratories using tools such as microscopes, triple beam balances, thermometers, beakers, flasks, and test tubes. You can expect to learn all about the human body, the laws of motion, the different types of energy, volcanoes and earthquakes, ecosystems, atomic structure, the periodic table, and much much more. Be ready to have fun, work hard and learn a lot of SCIENCE!!

Eighth grade math is
challenging, but fun.
We are going to learn many new concepts.
This
coming year we will also be using graphing calculators in certain areas of
study.
This will enable eighth graders to get ready for high
school.
We will be learning pre-algebra and algebraic concepts.
I
have high expectations of the students.
We did well on the TAKS test last
year and am expecting greater results this year.
