Fourth Grade
In Grade 4, students spend significant blocks of time engaged in reading and writing independently. Fourth grade students are critical listeners and analyze a speaker's intent such as to entertain or to persuade. When speaking, they adapt their language to the audience, purpose, and occasion. Students continue to read classic and contemporary selections. Fourth grade students read with a growing interest in a wide variety of topics and adjust their reading approach to various forms of texts. Students expand their vocabulary systematically across the curriculum. Students read for meaning and can paraphrase texts. Students are able to connect, compare, and contrast ideas. Fourth grade students can identify and follow varied text structures such as chronologies and cause and effect. Students produce summaries of texts and engage in more sophisticated analysis of characters, plots, and settings. Fourth grade students are able to select and use different forms of writing for specific purposes such as to inform, persuade, or entertain. Their writing takes on style and voice. Fourth grade students write in complete sentences. Students vary sentence structure and use adjectives, adverbs, prepositional phrases, and conjunctions. Fourth grade students are proficient spellers. Students edit their writing based on their knowledge of grammar and usage, spelling, punctuation, and other conventions of written language. Students can produce a final, polished copy of a written composition. Fourth grade students understand and use visual media and can compare and contrast visual media to print.

Our 4th grade field trip is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28th.We will be visiting “The Magik Theater”.The production we are scheduled to see is “School House Rock”.Afterwards, we will play and have lunch at Hemisphere Park.It will be a fun filled day that we all are looking forward to.

Hello,
4th Grade Students and Parents,
We will be reviewing Math and Reading for the next two weeks.
We Can Do It!!!
I will be giving students homework- Nothing new!. "Homework" is not busy work or punishment, but a review of what we have learned on that day or throughout the week. Students should be taking it serious to ensure understanding. Parents, please do not hesitate to contact me if student forgets how to do the assignment. I will be glad to assist you and your child with the assignment.
Reading logs have been going home with students on Fridays. Students should be reading (chapter books, magazines, newspaper, or something that interest them) for 20-30 minutes daily (more is good) and writing a short summary of what they read. Once they have completed daily reading, parents must sign reading log daily. All reading logs are due on Fridays. This assignment is counted for two grades (reading and writing). Please ensure that your child is reading. Students are allowed to check out books from my library and the school library. No excuses for not reading!
* Science- Students will be creating a science project in the next coming weeks. More information will be provided to you and your child of procedures and rules (rubric) within the next couple of days.
Quick Reminder---
Attendance is very important to me and to your student. Students that are absent miss out on daily assignments, reviews and celebrations that we have within our class. Although, given enough time to complete assignments students tend to fall behind with assignments and with learning.
Parents - Thank you for all of your support with your student. Any questions please don't hesitate to contact me... Thanks!! Mrs. Zamora

During the 2006-2007 school year I was busy helping fifth grade students prepare for their math TAKS test. Our students were very successful and we are very proud of their performance. Fifth graders worked very dilligently this year and to celebrate we threw an awesome end-of-year celebration for them on May 24th. It was sad to see the year come to an end, but we will have wonderful memories.
In the upcoming year, I will be returning to New Frontiers Charter School as a fourth grade teacher. I am very excited to be moving to fourth grade and I will be spending my summer preparing for my new position. I look forward to planning many fun and exciting learning experiences for my students.
