The Spring is very busy season at NFCS. We began in March with several area public, private, and charter high schools visiting our campus to address our 8th grade students. Our 8th grade class left with a lot of information and decisions to make. Many of whom have made their decisions since then and have been accepted to some very good schools. We are very proud of this class and wish them all the good fortune that the future can hold.
Several community outreach programs have partnered with NFCS to provide our youth with much-needed comprehensive services. These programs include “Hispanas Unidas/Escuelitas” that is geared to serve our girls from grades 3rd-8th through an after-school program. “Joven” and “Project Worth” begin Abstinences classes this month for grades 6, 7, & 8. Parent consent for these lessons has been made mandatory. Please contact Mrs. Arshad or your child’s teacher with questions you may have regarding these programs.
Nacho the Ventriloquist is scheduled to perform his act “Don’t let Drugs make you a Dummy!” at our school on May 4th. This year, grades 1, 3, 5, & 7 have been selected to be entertained by this great act. As always, Nacho and his friends promise to deliver an important message in the most entertaining manner, so mark your calendars and be our guest on this special day.
Lastly, Career Day is scheduled for May 20th between the hours of 8:30-10:00 a.m.. 7th & 8th grade students will spend part of their morning learning about and being exposed to the world of work and careers. Community professionals will be invited to donate their time to share their expertise in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. If as a parent you are interested in teaching our youth about your special career, please contact Mrs. Arshad at 533-3655 ext. 3251. Volunteers would be so appreciated.

The Counseling program at NFCS offers a variety of services to the students of NFCS. Classroom developmental guidance lessons are taught in the classroom in order to support our Character Education and Safe & Drug Free programs. Brief individual and group guidance is also something that is offered to students to address academic, social and emotional needs of some students. Trainings and consultations are offered to staff, parents, and community members regarding special education referrals, signs and symptoms of child abuse, possible 504 referrals, etc. The coordination of resources in the school and the community is done in our counseling department in order to help students fulfill their fullest academic, personal, and social development. The Parent Involvement Program is also headed by the Counseling Department. Please make sure to contact our Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Arshad if you are interested in becoming a parent volunteer in the 2007-2008 school year.
