Academics

The approach to curriculum at New Frontiers Charter School is twofold: a traditional academically enhanced component and a component that provides for self development as well as character development of the student. The basis of the curriculum is as follows:

The Academic Requirements
· Grade Level Specific TEKS/TAKS Requirements
· Second Language Acquisition
· Computer Literacy
· Fine Arts Appreciation
· Physical Education

The Enrichment Component
· Character Education
· Self-Development Exploration
· Service Learning Activities
· Project-Based Learning Activities
· Parental Involvement Activities

The New Frontiers Charter School provides a learning environment that contributes to student success by encouraging parents to play an active role in decision-making, character building, and providing a home environment that encourages academic success. In turn, the school will provide a rigorous curriculum, effective and supportive teachers, and state-of-the-art materials and technology to ensure that we are on the cutting edge and that your child receives the greatest benefit. This "Partnership in Success" will ensure a well-rounded and successful student who is a lifelong learner and productive citizen.

curriculum.jpgYesterday as I walked down the hallway, a group of 2nd grade students strolled past me. As I waved, “hello,” it seemed like they were all at least 5 inches taller than the day before!Every year at about this time, I am amazed at how much taller and wiser our students grow during one year!

Spring is the time of year when teachers measure annual academic growth. We complete end of the year assessments and evaluate the mastery of the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills). We also take time to reflect on how we were successful, as well as how we can improve the following school year.As this year quickly draws to an end, I encourage all parents to also reflect on this past year at New Frontiers.A few questions to guide your thoughts may include:

  • How did my child progress academically and socially?
  • In what areas did my child need extra support, and in what areas did he/she excel?
  • How can I further encourage my child’s education next year?
  • Did I let my child know he/she is loved, valued, and supported every day?
Don’t ever forget to praise your child about his/her academic growth. While we are all quick to comment on how much taller or grown up a child appears, we sometimes forget to acknowledge how much smarter they are growing.Celebrate big and little accomplishments and know that you have the greatest impact on your child’s education!
