esl2.jpgThe English as a Second Language Program at New Frontiers Charter School works with all students identified as English Language Learners. The objective of the program is to insure that our ELLs acquire proficiency in the English language at the same time that they are receiving content-based instruction. We coordinate with all general education classroom teachers and are in constant dialogue regarding student well-being and academic performance. We recommend appropriate teaching strategies as well as facilitate small group instruction based on individual student needs and language proficiencies.

YonHui Bell has been the ESL Coordinator for the past two years. She initially began working at NFCS in 2001 and has taught kinder, second, third, and fourth grade.
Ms. Bell received her Master's in English from UTSA and taught freshman writing courses there while earning her degree. She also taught English in Japan for a year. Following her insatiable thirst for knowledge of other cultures, she spent four years in El Salvador working as a volunteer in a literacy program. She learned firsthand the struggles and joys a person goes through when they learn another language and culture.
Ms. Bell is a certified bilingual K-4 educator. She additionally holds a certification in 4-8 Science and K-8 ESL.
